- KXSubstitute
Patented Low Cost Alternate to Type KX Extension
TE Wire & Cables KXSubstitute
is a revolutionary product that can
be used as an economical replacement for traditional Type K
extension wire and cable. The key to KXSubstitute
is a special patented, compensating alloy formulation that
guarantees ASTM/ANSI standard calibration tolerances over the
range of 32F (0C) to 221F (105C) the precise operating
range for all UL listed 300 volt PVC insulated
thermocouple extension cables.
Traditional Type KX extension cable uses the most expensive
thermocouple alloys. KXSubstitute
however was designed with cost-savings in mind and is formulated
using more readily available, less costly constituent alloys.
As a result KXSubstitute
is inherently less costly, pound for pound, than traditional
KX. Since the conductor alloys account for the greatest portion
of the cost of a finished cable, this translates into a significant
cost savings for the end user.
A second advantage is that KXSubstitute
has less than half the nominal loop
resistance of traditional KX wire. Compared with traditional
KX, this allows the
designer to run up to twice the length of cable for a given
gauge size, or use a
smaller gauge size KXSubstitute
for the same length of cable, while maintaining
the same system accuracy. For example, 20 AWG KXSubstitute
can be used to replace 16 AWG KX.

Smaller gauge size or longer runs both mean a significant
cost savings to the end user.
KXSubstitute is guaranteed to meet
or exceed ASTM E230/ANSI-MC96.1 standard initial calibration
tolerance over the temperature range 32F (0C) to 221F (105C).
KXSubstitute also meets or exceeds
the IEC and DIN calibration standards for compensating extension
cable for Type K thermocouples. KXSubstitute
is available in any TE Wire & Cable construction
replacing Type KX conductors. Normally supplied following ISA
color coding for Type KX, custom or international color codes
can be accommodated. When applicable, jackets are clearly marked
per UL requirements and identify the cable as KXSubstitute.
